Is your office becoming scattered and disorganized? Or has it always been that way? Even in our new age of e-mail, internet sharing and whatnot, where papers are slowly becoming obsolete (as is filling out forms in triplicate), you can still end up with a mountain of papers cluttering up your desk or working area. It can also be really hard to find things in that mess, wouldn't it be better to have things away in an organized fashion where everything is labeled and therefore really easy to find?
More than likely, these files would be best organized through the use of an office file cabinet. With an office file cabinet, you can sort these papers in any way you like. The way that I prefer is to begin by making file folders labeled with common themes you deal with. For example, contracts, time sheets, expense sheets, etc. Go through the papers on your desk and put them into the properly labeled folder. If the paper does not have a folder which matches it, leave it in a pile to go through later. After putting all of this away, you may notice that you have a folder or two which is stuffed so large it won't stay up. If this happens, find a way to split it up. You can do this by making more specific folders, or alphabetize them (A-M, N-Z). Next go back to that pile which didn't match anything, do you see any common themes there? Make a folder. If you cannot find anything that matches, make a miscellaneous folder and put them in there.
Modern Office Desks
After doing all of this, you should have a much neater desk and an easy to find filing system to use. To keep it up, you can go through your desk daily to file things, or wait until things pile up, whatever you are most comfortable with. Some people like to file the papers immediately after they receive them making sure that they get filed properly.
